Book VS Movie: Attitude

Uncaring VS Uncaring

So why am I saying that it's Uncaring VS Uncaring? Well when one thinks about it Kiriyama is incapable of having any other attitude towards a situation so therefore it is the one trait that the writers could not possibly change when converting the character into a movie form.

There are subtle differences between Kiriyama's attitude to the game based on his position as a member of the class or the 'transfer'. Though they are so incredibly minute. In truth I am glad this section of Kazuo's personality was not drastically altered. His cold, uncaring glare and stance it what makes him so incredibly wonderful and his willingness to kill is what makes him so intriguing.

Whether it be book or movie Kiriyama does not care in the slightest for the game and in both instances 'chooses' to partake in it for the sake of it. One can assume that before the movie begins Kazuo could have also tossed a coin to decide on whether he would sign up for the game much like he does in the book. This method of deciding a course of action is slightly chilling as it proves how indifferent the boy is to everything and everyone.

One difference between the two versions however is that book Kiriyama is a more 'smart' uncaring than his film version. He ensures that he stays out of sight in the begining of the game when concerning Yumiko and Yukiko's death, keeping his identity as a killer a secret. It's not so much that he gives a damn if people know it is him partaking in these acts but rather he is acknowledging that the element of surprise is deadly and could aid him in killing off his classmates. Movie Kiriyama is more forward and simply shoots but does not hide.

Conclusion

Kiriyama rocks my world.

(Its the same quality so I can hardly compare the two now can I?)
